Nationwide Strikes against proposed pension cuts continue this week, with UCU demonstrations taking place outside the picket lines of some of London’s renowned universities
Tens of thousands of university staff have walked out as part of a 14 day strike, calling for UUK to renegotiate the proposed cuts, which could leave the typical lecturer £10,000 a year worse off.
Members and supporters from institutions such as Kings College and UCL are standing in solidarity to campaign against the cuts, with many students missing out on remaining lectures to show their support
Joseph Attard, a lecturer at Kings College London, said: "I’ve been really heartened by the number of students, I’d say the majority of students, who’ve seen the bigger political picture, who’ve looked past the short term incumbrance upon their education and recognised that 14 days of disrupted lectures is nothing compared to just how bad higher education could become if we allow this to continue."
UCU members will attend today's UUK talks and continue to campaign for a resolution. But with UUK’s statement that negotiations will not re-open, strikes are set to continue for the remainder of the 14 day period.
